Chi sono gli Eroi?
Storicamente siamo abituati a pensare che siano divinità, guerrieri, condottieri con capacità fisiche e mentali al di fuori della portata degli uomini. Nel 2016 li vediamo nelle produzioni cinematografiche, ancora come semi-dei nelle loro armature colorate, imbracciando scudi scintillanti e armi super tecnologiche, mentre conducono guerre per salvare l’umanità.
Fin da bambini tutti vogliono essere eroi, ma crescendo questa voglia svanisce avendo un’assurda convinzione che non esistano.
Sono medici che da 25 anni operano malformazioni congenite sui bambini bengalesi, per i quali la mortalità infantile al di sotto dei 5 anni è di 89 morti ogni 1000 bambini (nella maggior parte dei casi per polmonite o gastroenterite).
In Bangladesh è presente 1 medico ogni 10.000 abitanti, nei villaggi la popolazione si affida agli stregoni e la maggior parte degli ospedali sono nelle grandi città, in cui è disponibile 1 posto letto ogni 3.500 abitanti. Qui il 70% della popolazione (170 milioni di abitanti) vive con meno di 2 dollari al giorno e la sanità, che dovrebbe essere pubblica, in realtà è a pagamento perchè devi comprare tutto ciò che è necessario per la tua operazione e se non hai denaro a sufficienza ti lasciano morire.

Who Heroes are?
Since we are children, everyone wants to become an hero. But when we grow up this dreams slowly falls down.
As a matter of fact we think, as adult do, that heroes exist… But they really exist, even if they haven’t got any supernatural power nor weapons…
What they actually do, is saving year lots of children thanks to their skills which are used for the poorest, outcast and so on… They are Physicians who have been working for 25 years in the treatment of congenital malformations in children from Bangladesh. Here infant mortality under 5 years old is 8,9% (mostly for Pneumonia and Gastroenterities).
In this country is also available one Physician per 10.000 inhabitants. In village wizards have this role. There are hospitals only in the biggest cities and most of them has only 1 bed per 3.500 inhabitants. 70% of the population (170 millions) lives with less then 2 dollars a day. Health in Bangladesh should be theoretically public. Actually it is a pad service, because you have to buy all you need for surgery. If you don’t have enough money, none can help you. Often this means death.
